hungover (2024)

  1. Hungover

    Lyrics: Hungover

One thing I know is I know this 'bout you
Your eyes get me drunk, stronger than hundred proof
And I've been drinkin' too much
And I need to quit it
It sucks wakin' up, I ain't scared to admit it
That, last night, I way overdid it
    Yeah, I'm hungover
Still a long way from sober
    Dammit, I'm hurtin'
    This morning, I'm learning
How much that bourbon in your kiss don't lead to closure
    And, yeah, I'm hungover
What we've been doin' ain't workin' at all
We say we're done then pickup at last call
This on again, off again is takin' its toll
I try but I can't seem to tell myself no
'Cause ya kiss me and I lose control
    Yeah, I'm hungover
Still a long way from sober
    Dammit, I'm hurtin'
    This morning, I'm learning
How much that bourbon in your kiss don't lead to closure
    Yeah, I'm hungover
This on again, off again is takin' its toll
I try but I can't seem to tell myself no
    Yeah, I'm hungover
Still a long way from sober
    Dammit, I'm hurtin'
    This morning, I'm learning
How much that bourbon in your kiss don't lead to closure
    And, yeah, I'm hungover
    Yeah, I'm hungover
  2. I Blame the Bar

    Lyrics: I Blame the Bar

The thing about a small town, word's gonna get around
    He said, she said thing
Like who burned who, who's with somebody new
Did you see the look on her face?
Yeah, it's been a while since I've seen
That smile in the light of this neon dive
I ain't mad anymore, ain't the me from before
    Ain't nobody wrong or right
So, no, I don't blame you for walkin' through the door
Snakeskin boots dancin' 'round the floor
And I can't blame me for doin' my hair
Wearin' those jeans, lettin' you stare
Yeah, it all went down 'round these four walls
If it's anyone's fault, it's the lime and the salt
For breakin' this broken heart, I blame the bar
If it wasn't for the band and the lighter in your hand
Might've never had the chance to meet
If it wasn't for the drinks, the sayin' what we think
    We wouldn't mean a thing
No, I don't blame you for walkin' through the door
Snakeskin boots dancin' 'round the floor
And I can't blame me for doin' my hair
Wearin' those jeans, lettin' you stare
Yeah, it all went down 'round these four walls
If it's anyone's fault, it's the lime and the salt
For breakin' this broken heart, I blame the bar
No, I don't blame you that it didn't work out
Even if I used to, baby, I don't now
It was the two-for-ones, bein' young and dumb
    That everybody's gotta go through
So, no, I don't blame you for walkin' through the door
Snakeskin boots dancin' 'round the floor
And I can't blame me for doin' my hair
Wearin' those jeans, lettin' you stare
Yeah, it all went down 'round these four walls
If it's anyone's fault, it's the lime and the salt
For breakin' this broken heart, I blame the bar
Yeah, for breakin' this broken heart, I blame the bar
  3. You Look Like You Love Me

Lyrics: You Look Like You Love Me

I was all but 22, I think at the time
I'd been out on the road, lonely at night
And it'd been a while, so it was on my mind
Well, I saw him walk in, with his cowboy hat
And I thought to myself, I could use some of that

His boots like glass on a sawdust floor, huh
Had moves like nothing I'd ever seen before
So I walked right up, and I pulled him to the side
I handed that man a beer and looked him in the eyes
And I said, "Baby, I think you're gonna wanna hear this"
    Then I told him

    "Excuse me
You look like you love me
You look like you want me to want you to come on home
And baby, I don't blame you
For looking me up and down across this room
I'm drunk and I'm ready to leave
And you look like you love me"

Well, I was down at a local beer joint with a few of the guys
When this cute little country girl caught my eye
And boy, let me tell you, she was the prettiest thing I'd ever seen in a pair of boots
Well, she walked right up to me, handed me a beer
Gave me a look like, "Let's get out of here"
And that's when I realized that she was every cowboy's dream come true
She told me this right here, she said

    "Excuse me
You look like you love me
You look like you want me to want you to come on home
And baby, I don't blame you
For looking me up and down across this room
I'm drunk and I'm ready to leave
And you look like you love me"
    Alright now

So if you ever see a man in a cowboy hat
And you think to yourself, I could use some of that
    Don't waste your time
Just give him this here line
    Goes a little like this

    "Excuse me
You look like you love me
You look like you want me to want you to come on home
And baby, I don't blame you
For looking me up and down across this room
I'm drunk and I'm ready to leave
And you look like you love me
I'm drunk and I'm ready to leave
And you look like love me"
  4. Nicotine

    Lyrics: Nicotine

    I wouldn't smoke
    No, I wouldn't need to
When I need something to calm my nerves
    Yeah, I'd just hold you
    Between my fingertips
    Put you to my lips
    And get a fix

    Baby, be my nicotine
My lips on a buzz smoke ring
    Feels good under neon lights
A stiff drink at the end of the night
Be the thing that I crave so bad
Leave me wanting just a one more drag
Take my breath, make it hard to breathe
The one I want, but I just don't need
    Baby, be my nicotine
    My nicotine

    You'd have a warning
    But I'd skip the label
So if I ever tried to quit you, I wouldn't be able
I'd be addicted, hell, I'd be hooked
'Cause I'm a little more bad than good

    So, baby, be my nicotine
My lips on a buzz smoke ring
    Feels good under neon lights
Stiff drink at the end of the night
Be the thing that I crave so bad
Leave me wanting just a one more drag
Take my breath, make it hard to breathe
The one I want, but I just don't need
    Baby, be my nicotine
    My nicotine

Baby be, baby be, baby be, ooh

    Baby, be my nicotine
My lips on a buzz smoke ring
    Feels good under neon lights
Stiff drink at the end of the night
Be the thing that I crave so bad
Leave me wanting just a one more drag
Take my breath, make it hard to breathe
The one I want, but I just don't need
    Baby, be my nicotine
    My nicotine

Baby be, baby be, baby be my nicotine
    My nicotine
  5. Love You Tonight

    Lyrics: Love You Tonight

One drink, what's that gonna hurt?
    One dance never killed nobody
One kiss just for old time's sake
Head back to your place, hands on your body

Sounds like a good idea when I've been drinkin'
But when I sober up, I'm thinkin', "What was I thinkin'?"
Climbin' in a last-call cab with you
    Doin' what I swore I wouldn't do
When the stars are out, boy, I want you to hold me
When the sun comes up, I'm leavin' even more lonely
I get high, then I'm heartbroke
Gonna love you tonight, gonna hate me tomorrow

    A mistake, that's what we've always been
Foolish is how I'll be feelin'
When I wake up in your bed
All the mess in my head, starin' at your ceiling

Sounds like a good idea when I've been drinkin'
But when I sober up, I'm thinkin', "What was I thinkin'?"
Climbin' in a last-call cab with you
    Doin' what I swore I wouldn't do
When the stars are out, boy, I want you to hold me
When the sun comes up, I'm leavin' even more lonely
I get high, then I'm heartbroke
Gonna love you tonight, gonna hate me tomorrow

    Ooh, gonna love you tonight
    Ooh, gonna hate me tomorrow
    Ooh, gonna love you tonight
Know that I shouldn't, but I'm gonna love you tonight

Sounds like a good idea when I've been drinkin'
But when I sober up, I'm thinkin', "What was I thinkin'?"
Climbin' in a last-call cab with you
    Doin' what I swore I wouldn't do
When the stars are out, boy, I want you to hold me
When the sun comes up, I'm leavin' even more lonely
I get high, then I'm heartbroke
Gonna love you tonight, gonna hate me tomorrow

    Ooh, gonna love you tonight
    Ooh, gonna hate me tomorrow
    Ooh, gonna love you tonight
Know that I shouldn't, but I'm gonna love you tonight
  6. Better Be Tough

    Lyrics: Better Be Tough

Honey, you must think I'm blind
Hell, you must think I was born last night
Or maybe you think I don't mind
That you got your little somethin' on the side
    Well, I do, so I don't
Wanna hear how you only just drove her home
    Screw you, 'cause I won't
Be leavin' without a little smoke
If you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough
Don't come cryin', tryna make it back up
If you're gonna lay down with the junkyard dogs
Better be ready for a girl done wrong
Talkin' sugar in your Chevy, four flat tires
Six-string Tele', set it on fire
Guess your daddy never told you when you were growin' up
If you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough
Gonna roll your bass boat down the hill
Gonna watch it sink down to the bottom
Paint the ten-point buck that you killed
    Rattle can red, no problem
You ain't seen crazy 'til you seen me
All pissed off comin' down your street
If you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough
Don't come cryin', tryna make it back up
If you're gonna lay down with the junkyard dogs
Better be ready for a girl done wrong
Talkin' sugar in your Chevy, four flat tires
Six-string Tele', set it on fire
Guess your daddy never told you when you were growin' up
If you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough
If you're gonna run around cheatin' in a small town
If you're gonna be that gall
You better have thick skin and fake it like a real man
Boy, you're gonna have to be tough
If you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough
Don't come cryin', tryna make it back up
If you're gonna lay down with the junkyard dogs
Better be ready for a girl done wrong
Talkin' sugar in your Chevy, four flat tires
Six-string Tele', set it on fire
Guess your daddy never told you when you were growin' up
If you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough
    If you're gonna be dumb
    You better be tough
  7. Paint the Town Blue

    Lyrics: Paint the Town Blue

I've tried to going out, running 'round with the party crowd
Yeah, I was acting like that heartbreak didn't mean a thing
I've tried the burning it up and the shutting it down
    Look how that turned out
I've done everything but giving in to the pain
    So tonight
I ain't gonna smile like it ain't hurting
I'm not drinking nothing but some straight-up bourbon
I ain't gonna lie, I'm so lonesome I could cry
I'm gonna pour it out to the dive bartender
Ain't going to the house till I forget to remember
Ever since you left I've been trying to paint it red
But tonight, I'm doing something new
I'm gonna paint the town blue
I'm gonna paint the town blue
Gonna find me a barstool with a silver line in silver smoke
Gonna fall to pieces like this barely beating heart you broke
Yeah, I've been acting like you're something that I don't want back
    But hell, this ain't that
I ain't gonna smile like it ain't hurting
I'm not drinking nothing but some straight-up bourbon
I ain't gonna lie, I'm so lonesome I could cry
I'm gonna pour it out to the dive bartender
Ain't going to the house till I forget to remember
Ever since you left I've been trying to paint it red
But tonight, I'm doing something new
I'm gonna paint the town blue
I'm gonna paint the town blue
I ain't gonna smile like it ain't hurting
I'm not drinking nothing but some straight-up bourbon
I ain't gonna lie, I'm so lonesome I could cry
I'm gonna pour it out to the dive bartender
Ain't going to the house till I forget to remember
Ever since you left I've been trying to paint it red
But tonight, I'm doing something new
I'm gonna paint the town blue
I'm gonna paint the town blue
I'm gonna paint the town blue
  8. Cowboy Friends

    Lyrics: Cowboy Friends

Hate to break to break your buckle, baby
You ain't the only John Wayne here
In the spur of the moment, some other boots could buy me a beer
If you're threatening to leave just to see if I care
I'd tell you where to go, but I think you know where
So saddle up and ride away
It ain't like it was love anyways
I won't have no trouble rounding up the next one when this ends
I've got me more than a few cowboy friends
You think you're such a big shot with that big ten-gallon hat
Overcompensating, you know what they say about that
You need all that getup to get a girl to call you baby
All I need is what the good Lord gave me
So saddle up and ride away
It ain't like it was love anyways
I won't have no trouble rounding up the next one when this ends
I've got me more than a few cowboy friends, yee-haw
    Alright now
I know this ain't probably what you wanted me to say
I bet you were hoping I'd be begging you to stay
Don't get me wrong, I'll be watching you leave
I can't lie, I do like the rear view of those jeans
So saddle up and ride away
It ain't like it was love anyways
I won't have no trouble rounding up the next one when this ends
I've got me more than a few cowboy friends
One's been calling me for weeks, and oh, here he is again
I've got me more than a few cowboy friends, woo
  9. Girl Who Drank Wine

    Lyrics: Girl Who Drank Wine

Nothin' but a dusty dive in Somewhere, Oklahoma
Wouldn't know it passin' by if someone hadn't told ya
Only from around here's walkin' in
Wearin' denim head to toe, a cowboy Cassanova
Comes in every Saturday and everybody knows him
And he knows everybody walkin' in
So think of what he thought when she did
She wasn't from around here, outfit showed
She spoke a different accent everybody spoke
Sittin' on a barstool, keepin' to herself
Didn't order from the top, didn't drink from the well
She wanted somethin' red in a tall stem glass
He didn't catch her name, she was gone in a flash
Left him wantin' more than what he had
That one night with the girl who drank wine
He tried to throw the same old lines, but dammit, she was witty
She said, "I've heard that once or twice, you coulda just said I'm pretty"
She wasn't his same old cup of tea
    Unlike anything he'd ever seen
She wasn't from around here, outfit showed
She spoke a different accent everybody spoke
Sittin' on a barstool, keepin' to herself
Didn't order from the top, didn't drink from the well
She wanted somethin' red in a tall stem glass
He didn't catch her name, she was gone in a flash
Left him wantin' more than what he had
That one night with the girl who drank wine
With the girl who drank wine
Legends say he's sippin' whiskey in the same old place
'Cause the girl who drank wine drove the good old boy insane
She wasn't from around here, outfit showed
She spoke a different accent everybody spoke
Sittin' on a barstool, keepin' to herself
Didn't order from the top, didn't drink from the well
She wanted somethin' red in a tall stem glass
He didn't catch her name, she was gone in a flash
Left him wantin' more than what he had
That one night with the girl who drank wine
  10. Monsters

    Lyrics: Monsters

I've got some real monsters livin' inside my head

There's a voice that speaks to me
Tellin' me everything I'll never be
Every secret that I try to hide
It shouts it out inside my mind
    Everything I do seems wrong
    Everywhere I go I don't belong

I've got some real monsters livin' inside my head
Memories I'd like to leave shoved up under my bed
Caught up in a bad dream, don't even have to sleep
To see every regret, take it from me
I've got some real monsters livin' inside my head, inside my-

    I over-analyze
    Let my worst critic criticize
Every last mistake I ever made
Every woulda, coulda, shoulda on replay

I've got some real monsters livin' inside my head
Memories I'd like to leave shoved up under my bed
Caught up in a bad dream, don't even have to sleep
To see every regret, take it from me
I've got some real monsters livin' inside my head, inside my head
Inside my head, inside my head

    Everything I do seems wrong
    Everywhere I go, I don't belong

I've got some real monsters livin' inside my head
Memories I'd like to leave shoved up under my bed
Caught up in a bad dream, don't even have to sleep
To see every regret, take it from me
I've got some real monsters livin' inside my head, inside my head
    Inside my head

Inside my head, inside my head
  11. People Change

    Lyrics: People Change

    People say, "Forever"
Hell, I said it to you
    People stay together
Running from the truth ain't what I wanna do
Could stay high on nostalgia, live life looking back
We can hate it or doubt it, but it doesn't change that fact

That people change their minds, people change their hair
People change each other out of no damn where
It's a part of life, we can't help ourselves
So don't be surprised when I change myself
    'Cause people change
    Woo-ooh-ooh
    People change

    Woo-ooh-ooh

People change even when you wish they wouldn't
You learn it's out of your control
    And every time I thought I couldn't
Holding back just take a toll
So I go and break the mold
I'm not where I used to be, but I'm getting where I want to go
I don't know a lot, but I'm guessing God made forks in the road

'Cause people change their minds, people change their hair
People change each other out of no damn where
It's a part of life, we can't help ourselves
So don't be surprised when I change myself
    'Cause people change
    Woo-ooh-ooh
    People change
    Woo-ooh-ooh
    People change

    People say forever
Hell, I said it to you

People change their minds, people change their hair
People change each other out of no damn where
It's a part of life, we can't help ourselves
So don't be surprised when I change myself

People change their minds, people change their hair
People change each other out of no damn where
It's a part of life, we can't help ourselves
So don't be surprised when I change myself
    'Cause people change
    Woo-ooh-ooh
    People change
    Woo-ooh-ooh

    People change
    Woo-ooh-ooh
    Yeah, people change
    People change, yes, people change
    Woo-ooh-ooh
    People change
  12. Closest to Heaven

    Lyrics: Closest to Heaven

    They shut the door
Pulled the shade, told us the news
Now, it wasn't long till the pastor came
Read a red line from Luke
    Granddaddy said, "I'm probably damned
From the damn things I've done"
    Then he grabbed Grandma's hand
    And in front of everyone

    He told her

The closest to Heaven that I'll ever be
Is somewhere with you under a big old oak tree
If it's hell-fire or streets of gold
Don't know where I'm gonna go
But if one thing I know, I believe
Honey, you're the closest to Heaven
    That I'll ever be

Then he said, "I was noddin' off
    Whiskey on my breath
    In a pinewood back pew
I only talked to God every now and then
    To thank Him for you
Guess He knew what He was doin'
When He sent you my way
You were the only chance I ever had at ever bein' saved"

Yeah, the closest to Heaven that I'll ever be
Is somewhere with you under a big old oak tree
If it's hell-fire or streets of gold
Don't know where I'm gonna go
But if one thing I know, I believe
Honey, you're the closest to Heaven
    That I'll ever be

Twenty-one guns, folded flag in her lap
    One headstone blank
Next to one etched in black
    And it reads

The closest to Heaven that I'll ever be
    Is somewhere with you
Under a big old oak tree
If it's hell-fire or streets of gold
Don't know where I'm gonna go
But if one thing I know, I believe
Honey, you're the closest to Heaven
    That I'll ever be

Honey, you're the closest to Heaven
    That I'll ever be
  13. Girl You're Taking Home

    Lyrics: Girl You're Taking Home

I got the whiskey, she gets the good-year bottle of wine
I got the neon, she gets the back porch strung-up lights
I got the white lies, she gets the truth
She gets the version I wanted of you

If I was good enough to be your last call
Why is she the one you call your mama about?
After seein' all the BS I saw
Why is she the one who sees your best side now?
If I'm the first thing on your mind the second she lets go
Then why ain't I the girl you're takin' home?

I saw the pictures, and she gets to cross that county line
I bet she's ridin' shotgun in your dad's old '85
Bet she met your grandma, you took her to church
She gets the cleaned-up, and I got the dirt, and it hurts 'cause

If I was good enough to be your last call
Why is she the one you call your mama about?
After seein' all the BS I saw
Why is she the one who sees your best side now?
If I'm the first thing on your mind the second she lets go
Then why ain't I the girl you're takin' home?

    Yeah, take her home
    Where you grew up
Baby, why ain't I the one you love?

If I was good enough to be your last call
Why is she the one you call your mama about?
After seein' all the BS I saw
Why is she the one who sees your best side now?
If I'm the first thing on your mind the second she lets go
Then why ain't I the girl you're takin' home?
Then why ain't I the girl you're takin' home?

Then why ain't I the girl you're takin' home?
  14. Weren't For the Wind

    Lyrics: Weren't For the Wind

I wouldn't paint me as a heart breaker
But I've said a few goodbyes
I'd make a promise, but I know later
I'm bound to change my mind
Dependin' on the weather I'm goin'
And hell, baby nobody knows where
Yeah, if it was a different time
Might've been different in a different life

Maybe that plane wouldn't ever take off
Maybe that dust wouldn't fly off the drive
Maybe that tumble weed and me
    Wouldn't leave every other sunrise
    Maybe I'd settle down
    Dig in some roots
    Find me a farm house
    Find me a you
Maybe I wouldn't be already gone again
If it weren't for the wind

    I wouldn't stay wonderin' what's out there
I wouldn't saddle up on the breeze
I wouldn't disappear out of thin air
I could put down these wings

Maybe that plane wouldn't ever take off
Maybe that dust wouldn't fly off the drive
Maybe that tumble weed and me
    Wouldn't leave every other sunrise
    Maybe I'd settle down
    Dig in some roots
    Find me a farm house
    Find me a you
Maybe I wouldn't be already gone again
If it weren't for the wind blowin'

Carryin' me to the wide open
White lines rollin' and the tires smokin'
It wouldn't be the rearview I'm lookin' in
If it weren't for the wind
If it weren't for the wind

Maybe that plane wouldn't ever take off
Maybe that dust wouldn't fly off the drive
Maybe that tumble weed and me
    Wouldn't leave every other sunrise
    Maybe I'd settle down
    Dig in some roots
    Find me a farm house
    Find me a you
Maybe I wouldn't be already gone again
If it weren't for the wind blowin'

Carryin' me to the wide open
White lines rollin' and the tires smokin'
It wouldn't be the rearview I'm lookin' in
If it weren't for the wind
If it weren't for the wind
  15. 20-20

    Lyrics: 20-20

I still remember you moving in
My mama saying we're crazy 'cause we're way too young
    I thought forever was happening
But what happens now when I think of us
Is I feel stupid, I feel cheap
    'Cause everyone knew it
    Everyone but me
    I should've seen right through
That shade of green in your eyes
I should've known it was true
    That everything was a lie
Looking back at what we were
    It's kind of funny, honey
Love is blind and hindsight's 20/20
Love is blind and hindsight's 20/20
I fell for someone I thought you were
Tunnel vision for something we were never meant to be
Can't even tell you what's hurting worse
The fact that I fooled myself or you made a fool of me, yeah
    I should've seen right through
That shade of green in your eyes
I should've known it was true
    That everything was a lie
Looking back at what we were
    It's kind of funny, honey
Love is blind and hindsight's 20/20
    Instead of pulling you in
    I should've pushed you away
    I could've opened my eyes
Yeah, well, that's easy to say
Damn it, I went all in
    All in for nothing, honey
Love is blind and hindsight's 20/20
Love is blind and hindsight's 20/20
    Yeah, hindsight's 20/20
I feel stupid, I feel cheap
    'Cause everyone knew it
    Everyone but me
    I should've seen right through
That shade of green in your eyes
I should've known it was true
    That everything was a lie
Looking back at what we were
    It's kind of funny, honey
Love is blind and hindsight's 20/20
    Instead of pulling you in
    I should've pushed you away
    I could've opened my eyes
Yeah, well, that's easy to say
Damn it, I went all in
    All in for nothing honey
Love is blind and hindsight's 20/20
Love is blind and hindsight's 20/20
    (I should've seen right through)
(I should've known it was true)
    Hindsight's 20/20
    (I should've pushed you away)
Love is blind and hindsight's 20/20

  16. Monologue

    Lyrics: Monologue

    These stories, this moment
Laughing at your choices, crying over your mistakes
Realizing the thing you want, isn't the thing you need
Fiercely standing up for yourself, making it through heartbreak
Not taking yourself so seriously, learning your self-worth
Being your own worst enemy, turning the page, true love
Growing out of the person you were, into the person you are now
Growth is painful, growth is hard
It is beautiful, and it can leave you feeling
    Hungover

Dandelion (2026)

  1. Froggy Went a Courtin’ (intro)

Lyrics: Froggy Went a Courtin’ (intro)

Froggy went a-courtin', and he did ride, uh-huh
Froggy went a-courtin', and he did ride, baby
Froggy went a-courtin', and he did ride
Sword and pistol by his side
    Uh-huh, baby o' mine
  2. Dandelion

    Lyrics: Dandelion

Tried leavin' where I come from, but I'm always gonna go back
I tried sippin' on the champagne, but it's always gonna be Jack
There's things I can't change, like how I was raised
The Bible in my blood, and the 'Bama in my veins
Ain't a pink bouquet in the flower store
    I'm okay if I'm a little more

Dandelion born to live free, ridin' on a breeze
    On a summer night
Tucked back in the weeds, guess that's just me
In a bed of red roses, I'm the one growin' up on the wilder side
So if you're tired of thorns, I'm a little more dandelion

No stranger to a dirt road or a country muddy river bank
If you're pickin' me, you oughta know
I wasn't made for a fancy crystal vase
A mason jar and old blue jeans, from my roots to my boots, I'll always be

A dandelion born to live free, ridin' on a breeze
    On a summer night
Tucked back in the weeds, guess that's just me
In a bed of red roses, I'm the one growin' up on the wilder side
So if you're tired of thorns, I'm a little more dandelion
    Oh-oh-oh, dandelion

Been a little overlooked all my life
But if you know where to look
It sounds like you might like

A dandelion born to live free, ridin' on a breeze
    On a summer night
Tucked back in the weeds, guess that's just me
In a bed of red roses, I'm the one growin' up on the wilder side
So if you're tired of thorns, I'm a little more
    Dandelion

    Whoa, dandelion
    Oh-oh-oh, dandelion, mm
    Dandelion, uh
Been a little overlooked, yeah, all my life
Well, 'least I made you look maybe once or twice
    Mm, dandelion
  3. Choosin’ Texas

    Lyrics: Choosin’ Texas

Just when I thought I got him to fall in love with Tennessee
I shoulda known better than to take him back to Abilene
I put him right back into her arms
I wasn't a match for that kinda spark

She's from Texas I can tell by the way
He's two steppin' round the room
And judgin' by the smile that's written on his face
There's nothin' I can to do
It doesn't take a crystal ball to see
A cowboy always finds a way to leave
    Drinkin' Jack all by myself
He's choosin' Texas I can tell

Well, I guess he forgot about the smoky mountain rain
Them old Hank tunes the Memphis blues we used sing
He always loved Amarillo By Morning
I shoulda taken that as warning

She's from Texas I can tell by the way
He's two steppin' round the room
And judgin' by the smile that's written on his face
There's nothin' I can to do
It doesn't take a crystal ball to see
A cowboy always finds a way to leave
    Drinkin' Jack all by myself
He's choosin' Texas I can tell

When I'm eastbound and down and I can't help but cry
Cause I-40 gets lonelier with every mile
I'll know that his mind wasn't ever gonna change
Cause his heart still belongs to the lone star state

She's from Texas I can tell by the way
He's two steppin' round the room
And judgin' by the smile that's written on his face
There's nothin' I can to do, naw yeah
It doesn't take a crystal ball to see
A cowboy always finds a way to leave
    Drinkin' Jack all by myself
He's choosing Texas I can tell, no
    Drinkin' Jack all by myself
He's choosin' Texas I can tell

    C'mon baby
    Ohh yeah
Just when I thought I got him to fall in love with Tennessee
  4. We Know Us

    Lyrics: We Know Us

    It's 10 p.m., you're callin' again
And I want to answer, so damn it, I answer
You're telling me why (telling me why), it's different this time (it's different this time)
So I give you an answer (a-a-ah), it's the same old answer

If we know us, it's goin' to take a turn
Yeah, if we know us, it's going to crash and burn, burn, burn
I know that you know we ain't goin' to say no
Yeah, we're going to mess this up, if we know us

I bet you'll show up at my door, I bet I'll let you in that war
We'll dim the lights and pull the shades but at the end of the day, babe

If we know us, it's goin' to take a turn
Yeah, if we know us, it's going to crash and burn, burn, burn
I know that you know that we ain't goin' to say no
Yeah, we're going to mess this up, if we know what

We know we're better off so
    But can we just pretend
We don't know how this ends?

If we know us, it's goin' to take a turn
If we know us, it's going to crash and burn, burn, burn
I know that you know we ain't goin' to say no
Yeah, we're going to mess this up, if we know us

Yeah, we're going to mess this up
    If we know us, ha
  5. Low Lights

    Lyrics: Low Lights

I don't wanna know better, I wanna be bad
I don't wanna care what I think when I'm thinking like that
    So, tonight, I'm giving in
To every temptation I see on your lips
Getting high on you and me underneath these low lights

That smoke ring around you, oughta be a sign
To turn around and walk, but I'm striking up a light
And a little conversation, a little too close
My good's just as gone as this Jack and Coke

    This feeling I could fight
But tonight, my hands are tied, I

I don't wanna know better, I wanna be bad
I don't wanna care what I think when I'm thinking like that
    So, tonight, I'm giving in
To every temptation I see on your lips
Getting high on you and me underneath these low, these low lights
    Yeah, these low lights
    Hey, hey, hey

Hey, your hands are driving me crazy
Your eyes are driving me crazy
    Am I driving you crazy?
    Damn, I must be crazy

'Cause I don't wanna know better, I wanna be bad
I don't wanna care what I think when I'm thinking like that
    So, tonight, I'm giving in
To every temptation that there's ever been
Getting high on you and me underneath these low, these low lights
    Yeah, these low lights
Yeah, getting high on you and me underneath these low, these low lights

    Ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh
    Yeah, these low lights
I ain't never seen something shine so bright underneath these low lights
  6. Be Her

    Lyrics: Be Her

She drank wine by the glass, not by the bottle
She ain't stuck on the past, ain't worried about tomorrow
    She's a lover, a mother, a sister and wife
She rolls over in the mornin' to the love of her life
Only smokes on one vacation, says just what she thinks
She don't need validation or much of anything

I just wanna be her so bad, it hurts so bad, it hurts so
I just wanna be her, I just wanna be her
I just wanna be her so bad, it hurts so bad, it hurts so
I just wanna be her, I just wanna be her so bad-ad-ad, it hurts so bad

She knows bein' rich is just a state of mind
She stays talkin' to Jesus, calls her mama all the time
She don't over-embellish, if she says it, then it's true
I don't mean to sound jealous, but what could I do? 'Cause

I just wanna be her so bad, it hurts so bad, it hurts so
I just wanna be her, I just wanna be her
I just wanna be her so bad, it hurts so bad, it hurts so
I just wanna be her, I just wanna be her

Don't want all this drama, give me some somethin' real
Trade a mile high to walk one in her heels
Take all my money, everything I have
I just wanna be her, I just wanna be her so bad-ad-ad, it hurts so bad

I just wanna be her so bad, it hurts so bad, it hurts so
I just wanna be her, I just wanna be her
I just wanna be her so bad, it hurts so bad, it hurts so
I just wanna be her, I just wanna be her

Don't want all this drama, give me some somethin' real
Trade a mile high to walk one in her heels
Take all my money, everything I have
I just wanna be her, I just wanna be her so bad-ad-ad, it hurts so bad

I just wanna be her, I just wanna be her so bad-ad
    Yeah, it hurts so bad
  7. You & Me Time

    Lyrics: You & Me Time

I've been real busy, boy, you've been real busy too
Letting that calendar slip, that ain't no good excuse
So whatcha say we make a little get away?
Take us a few days off 'cause

I really wanna hold ya, really get to know ya
God, I got a couple things I really wanna show ya
Don't it sound amazing? Both of us just laying
Around all day, I guess all that I'm really trying to say is

You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time, yeah
You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time

Let's turn the lights down, light some candles up
Put a little bit of red wine in a coffee cup
Put a record on, take a layer off
Let the loving let us get lost

Really wanna hold ya, really get to know ya
God, I got a couple things I really wanna show ya
Don't it sound amazing? Both of us just laying
Around all day, I guess all that I'm really trying to say is

You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time (just a little me-and-you time)
You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time (just a little me-and-you time)
    (You know me, come on!)

    Yeah, it's raining outside

You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time (just a little me-and-you time)
You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time (just a little me-and-you time)
You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time (just a little me-and-you time)
You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time (you and me, me and you, just a little bit of us time, yeah)

I really wanna hold ya, really get to know ya
God, I got a couple things I really wanna show ya
Don't it sound amazing? Both of us just laying around all day
I guess all that I'm really trying to say is

You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time (just a little me-and-you time)
You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time (you and me, me and you, just a little bit of us time)
You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time (me and you, you and me)
You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time (me and you, you and me)

You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time (me and you, you and me)
You and me could use just a little bit of me-and-you time
  8. Loving Life Again

    Lyrics: Loving Life Again

Seasons come like seasons go, I guess
Ain't it just like me makin' all this mess of my head again?
I got memories I like to think of
When this big old world gets a bit too much
When days are long, I drift away, I play that song I used to play
When skies are always summertime blue

Just like that, I'm back to loving life again
Dreamin' dreams 'bout back home ridin' on the wind
When I close my eyes, I find some peace in the back of my mind
In between them pines where I'm jumpin' on that quarter horse and then
Just like that, I'm back to loving life again

See that red dirt, hear that front porch swing
Is that grandma? I think she's callin' me
When days are long, I drift away, I sing that sweet "Amazing Grace"
And I'm right there where skies are always summertime blue

And just like that, I'm back to loving life again
Dreamin' dreams 'bout back home ridin' on the wind
When I close my eyes, I find some peace in the back of my mind
In between them pines where I'm jumpin' on that quarter horse and then
Just like that, I'm back to loving life again

I know I ain't the only one who thinks about that settin' sun
Settlin' on down into the night and puts it on rewind

Just like that, I'm back to loving life again
Dreamin' dreams 'bout back home ridin' on the wind
When I close my eyes, I find some peace in the back of my mind
In between them pines where I'm jumpin' on that quarter horse and then
    Just like that, I'm back
Yeah, just like that, I'm back to loving life again

    Loving life again
I'm back to loving life again
  9. Bottom of Your Boots

    Lyrics: Bottom of Your Boots

Your boots by the bed, my head on your shoulder
I'm thinking it's love and I'm thinking it sober
Boy, if your heart's a revolving door
Yeah, that's alright but I'm looking for more, yeah

If you're gonna love me, lay it on the table
Tell me how you really feel, give it a label
If you're gonna hold me, don't just hold me all night
Better hold me like you wanna hold me for the rest of your life
If you're gonna love me, better love me to the moon and back
From the bottom of your boots to the top of your hat

Blame it on you, not on some bourbon
The things that you're saying behind closed curtains
Go on and leave me 'fore it really hurts
If you don't mean it with those three words

If you're gonna love me, lay it on the table
Tell me how you really feel, give it a label
If you're gonna hold me, don't just hold me all night
Better hold me like you wanna hold me for the rest of your life
If you're gonna love me, better love me to the moon and back
From the bottom of your boots to the top of your hat

Ooh-ooh, oh, I'm fallin', fallin', fallin' fast for
    You, oh, darlin', darlin', darlin'

If you're gonna love me, lay it on the table
Tell me how you really feel, give it a label
If you're gonna hold me, don't just hold me all night
Better hold me like you wanna hold me for the rest of your life
If you're gonna love me, better love me to the moon and back
From the bottom of your boots to the top of your hat

The bottom of your boots to the top of your hat
    Yeah, babe, just like that
  10. Speaking Terms

    Lyrics: Speaking Terms

I used to kneel beside my bed at night when I was small
It was easy as breathing, believing wasn't hard at all
I knew that You were there close as my next prayer
The world'll break you down, break your heart, and shake your faith
But now you feel so far away, I don't know who's to blame
I don't talk to You as much, maybe that's part of growing up

I carry on this one-way conversation
I'm listening but You don't say a word
If Your answer's in the silence, I'll be patient
But it's hard to know my prayers are being heard
I'm waiting on a whisper, just something to confirm that
You and me are still on speaking terms

I mostly come around now when things aren't working out
I show up with my questions, my stumbles, and my doubts
Always thinking of myself, and always asking You for help

So I carry on this one-way conversation
I'm listening but You don't say a word
If Your answer's in the silence, I'll be patient
But it's hard to know my prayers are being heard
I'm waiting on a whisper, just something to confirm that
You and me are still on speaking terms

Even though I know You're more than I deserve
I want to get back to how we were

So I carry on this one-way conversation
I'm listening but You don't say a word
If Your answer's in the silence, I'll be patient
But it's hard to know my prayers are being heard
Yet I'm waiting on a whisper, just something to confirm that
You and me are still on speaking terms
Yeah, that you and me are still on speaking terms
  11. I Gotta Quit

    Lyrics: I Gotta Quit

When I'm walkin' down the road, when I'm starin' at the sky
When I'm gettin' too low, when I'm gettin' too high
If my day's goin' good, if my day's goin' bad
If I'm mad at the world, or I'm mad at my dad

When I'm all pissed off with my panties in a wad
And I can't find the words, just "oh my God"
Hate to say it out loud, wish it wasn't true
But, damn it, I gotta quit thinkin' 'bout you

Everywhere I go, everything I see
Even in my dreams, it's a-haunting me
Tell me what I gotta say, tell me what I gotta do
'Cause, damn it, I gotta quit thinkin' 'bout you

If I'm headed to the beach, if I'm headed to the lake
    If I'm on a buffalo in roller-skates
If I'm riding down the road in a red Corvette
If I smell a cigar or a cigarette

Every random pair of Wrangler jeans
Every blond hair, blue eyed ten I see
Got me coming undone, got a few screws loose
Damn it, I gotta quit thinking 'bout you

Everywhere I go, everything I see
Even in my dreams, it's a-haunting me
Tell me what I gotta say, tell me what I gotta do
'Cause, damn it, I gotta quit thinkin' 'bout you

Quit thinking 'bout your eyes, quit thinking 'bout your arms
Quit thinking 'bout the night on your grandpa's farm
And all the sweet nothings whispered in my ear
Oh how I wish your memory would disappear

Scram, get, get outta here now

'Cause everywhere I go, everything I see
Even in my dreams, it's a-haunting me
Tell me what I gotta say, tell me what I gotta do
'Cause, damn it, I gotta quit thinkin' 'bout you

Oh Lord, maybe one day I'll quit thinkin' 'bout you, baby
  12. It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels

Lyrics: It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels

As I sit here tonight, the jukebox playing
A tune about the wilder side of life
And as I listen to the words that you are saying
Brings memories of when I was a trusting wife

It wasn't God who made honky tonk angels
Like you said in the words of your song
Too many times married men think they're still single
That has caused many a good girl to go wrong

It's a shame that all the blame is on us women
It's not true that only you men feel the same
From the start, most every heart that's ever broken
Was because there always was a man to blame

It wasn't God who made honky tonk angels
Like you said in the words of your song
Too many times married men think they're still single
That has caused many a good girl to go wrong (all right now)

It wasn't God who made honky tonk angels
Like you said in the words of your song
Too many times married men think they're still single
That has caused many a good girl to go wrong
Yeah, that has caused many a good girl to go wrong
  13. Last Call for Us

    Lyrics: Last Call for Us

    It's last call for us
    The lights are comin' on
I don't wanna leave, but it's almost three
And I think we both know
That it's last call for us
    It's a sad, sad tune
That after these drinks, you'll let go of me
And I'll let go of you

We ain't ever gonna make this work
Let's close it out and go our separate ways
Soon as we go walking out that door
We ain't ever gonna, ain't ever gonna be the same

    It's last call for us
    Might cry a couple tears
We'll both head on home, but this time alone
    We won't come back here

Yeah, it's the last call for us
    Last look in your eyes
So, baby, lean in, 'cause I'll mean it when
    You kiss me goodbye

We ain't ever gonna make this work
Let's close it out and go our separate ways
Soon as we go walking out that door
We ain't ever gonna, ain't ever gonna be the same

Yeah, we ain't ever gonna make this work
Let's close it out and go our, our separate ways
Soon as we go walking out that door
We ain't ever gonna, ain't ever gonna be the same

    It's last call for us
    The lights are coming on
I don't wanna leave, but it's almost three
And I think we both know

Yeah, it's the last call for us (last call, last call)
It's last call for us (last call, last call)
    It's last call for us
  14. Broken

    Lyrics: Broken

Don't ask if I'm doing all right
Can we skip all the talking, baby?
And don't try to find the right thing to say
'Cause the words ain't working on me lately
Tears just fall on a hardwood floor
Gonna wonder why, gonna wonder what for
Don't ask if I'm doing all right, can we skip all the talking, baby?

Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
    Yeah, ah, oh yeah

One night, baby, just one night
Let me feel everything that I'm feelin'
    And if it's all right
I'ma let it all out, I'ma let it all out tonight

So, just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
You and me in the dark, just keep holding me tight
While I'm falling apart, baby, just for tonight (just let me, just let me, just let me be broken)
    Let me be broken, whoa-oh-oh

Ay, you and me in the dark, just keep holding me tight
While I'm falling apart, baby, just for tonight
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
Oh, don't ask if I'm doing all right
Baby, just let go, just for one night
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken

Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
Just let me, just let me, just let me be broken
  15. Somethin’ Simple

    Lyrics: Somethin’ Simple

I used to want this so bad, I swore I could taste it
Did anything and everything it took
Took a lot to get where I'm at, so I ain't gonna waste it
And damn if it don't feel good
But I miss my mama and that small town drama
Got what I wanted, but what if I still wanna

House on a hill, a horse in the yard
A dog at my feet, just a-pickin' my guitar
The sun going down, supper's on the stove
A hard workin' man taking off his dirty work clothes

While I'm living the dream, all I'm dreaming about
Is slowing down just a little
When I lay there and close my eyes
    I'm looking for somethin' simple

I don't want out at the bar, I want out on the back porch
Ain't a lick of makeup on
Don't wanna wait by the phone, I want, I can't wait to see you
    When he's already halfway home

To a house on a hill, a horse in the yard
A dog at my feet, just a-pickin' my guitar
The sun going down, supper's on the stove
A hard workin' man taking off his dirty work clothes

While I'm living the dream, all I'm dreaming about
Is slowing down just a little
When I lay there and close my eyes
    I'm looking for somethin' simple

Oh, I'm looking for somethin' simple
    Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

Ain't it kinda funny how the prayers you pray
    Tend to change some times
Went from wishing I was singing under big bright lights
To wishing I was headed home tonight

To a house on a hill, a horse in the yard
A dog at my feet, just a-pickin' my guitar
The sun going down, supper's on the stove
A hard workin' man taking off his dirty work clothes

While I'm living the dream, all I'm dreaming about
Is slowing down just a little
When I lay there and close my eyes
    I'm looking for somethin' simple

Oh, I'm looking for somethin' simple
    Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh
  16. Butterfly Season

    Lyrics: Butterfly Season

I see a different road, I see a different way
I think it's time to grow, I think it's time to change
    Time to rearrange
Yeah, I've been drinking less, and I've been thinking more
    Been wanting different things
    That's what spring is for
    Planting flowers on my porch

It's butterfly season, I'm finding my wings
A good time for leaving behind the old me
Headed for blue skies and lavender fields
Don't know where I'm landing, just know how it feels
    When it's time to fly

Sometimes I wrap myself up in my own cocoon
Guess I just need some time, and a little room
    To let them roses bloom

It's butterfly season, I'm finding my wings
A good time for leaving behind the old me
Headed for blue skies and lavender fields
Don't know where I'm landing, just know how it feels
When it's (when it's time) time to fly

Don't even know her, that girl from last October
Right now I'd like to show her
Who we've turned into, how the flowers look in June
When we're on to something new

It's butterfly season, I'm finding my wings
A good time for leaving behind the old me
Headed for blue skies and lavender fields
Don't know where I'm landing, just know how it feels, yeah

When it's (when it's time) time to fly
When it's (when it's time) time to fly, high
  17. Froggy Went a Courtin’ (outro)

Lyrics: Froggy Went a Courtin’ (outro)

    Uh-huh, baby of mine
    Last one
Apples on the table, peaches on the shelf, uh-huh (uh-huh)
Apples on the table, peaches on the shelf, baby
Apples on the table, peaches on the shelf
If you want any more, you can sing it yourself
    Uh-huh, baby of mine
I said, apples on the table peaches on the shelf
If you want any more, you can sing it yourself
Oh, uh-huh, baby of mine (just like that)

  1. Choosin' Texas

    Lyrics: Choosin' Texas

Just when I thought I got him to fall in love with Tennessee
I shoulda known better than to take him back to Abilene
I put him right back into her arms
I wasn't a match for that kinda spark

She's from Texas I can tell by the way
He's two steppin' round the room
And judgin' by the smile that's written on his face
There's nothin' I can to do
It doesn't take a crystal ball to see
A cowboy always finds a way to leave
    Drinkin' Jack all by myself
He's choosin' Texas I can tell

Well, I guess he forgot about the smoky mountain rain
Them old Hank tunes the Memphis blues we used sing
He always loved Amarillo By Morning
I shoulda taken that as warning

She's from Texas I can tell by the way
He's two steppin' round the room
And judgin' by the smile that's written on his face
There's nothin' I can to do
It doesn't take a crystal ball to see
A cowboy always finds a way to leave
    Drinkin' Jack all by myself
He's choosin' Texas I can tell

When I'm eastbound and down and I can't help but cry
Cause I-40 gets lonelier with every mile
I'll know that his mind wasn't ever gonna change
Cause his heart still belongs to the lone star state

She's from Texas I can tell by the way
He's two steppin' round the room
And judgin' by the smile that's written on his face
There's nothin' I can to do, naw yeah
It doesn't take a crystal ball to see
A cowboy always finds a way to leave
    Drinkin' Jack all by myself
He's choosing Texas I can tell, no
    Drinkin' Jack all by myself
He's choosin' Texas I can tell

    C'mon baby
    Ohh yeah
Just when I thought I got him to fall in love with Tennessee
