Suffering Jukebox is a jukebox that listeners build. Every song plays from a public YouTube video, so there is nothing to install, nothing to pay for, and no account needed to press play. What the site adds is the shape around the music: discographies laid out on a timeline, charts of what gets listened to, lyrics you can read and fix, playlists, and a way to share what you are listening to so friends can queue songs from their own phones.
It began as one artist's catalog and now holds music from more than 170 artists, because anyone signed in can bring in a song, a playlist, or a band's whole studio discography, and choose whether it joins the shared catalog or stays private to them.

David Berman returned in 2019 with Purple Mountains, his first release after retiring Silver Jews. The self-titled album is included in Suffering Jukebox alongside the full Silver Jews catalog.
Everything you hear is a public YouTube video. Suffering Jukebox does not host music. When you press play you are watching a YouTube video, and the artist and label get that view exactly as they would if you had opened it on YouTube yourself. The one exception is background play on a phone with the screen off, which uses an audio file you uploaded for your own account only.
Albums, dates, artwork, tracklists and lyrics come from public music databases and from whichever YouTube upload could be found, and are edited by listeners. Any of it can be wrong: a song can be matched to a live version, a record can be missing songs YouTube does not carry, and a release year can belong to a reissue. All of it is fixable from inside the app, but nothing here should be treated as a discography of record. There is more on that in the guide.
